Project Duration:7 Days

Working Principle

The foundation of the Ultimate Floor Cleaning Robot's operation is a continuous cycle of Sensing, Processing, and Actuation, all orchestrated by the Arduino Microcontroller.

The robot begins its task by relying on the three IR (Infrared) Sensors as its primary input mechanism. These sensors, strategically placed on the front of the chassis, constantly scan the immediate environment for obstacles like walls, furniture, or table legs. As the robot moves, it uses the signals from these sensors to detect proximity. If the front is clear, the Arduino, which serves as the robot's brain, commands the DC Geared Motors to propel the robot forward, initiating the straight-line cleaning path while the Cleaning Mechanism (be it a vacuum or a mop) is engaged.

The critical decision-making occurs when an obstacle is detected. A strong signal from any of the IR sensors alerts the Arduino to an impending collision. The programmed logic dictates that the robot must immediately stop, reverse for a short distance to ensure clearance, and then pivot the wheels to execute a significant turn, typically 90 degrees, to face a new, unobstructed direction. Furthermore, the lateral IR sensors can be used to implement a systematic cleaning approach, allowing the robot to follow the perimeter of a room by maintaining a constant distance from the walls. Throughout this entire navigation and cleaning process, the LCD Display acts as the user's interface, constantly updated by the Arduino to show the robot's current status, such as "Searching Path," "Cleaning," or "Obstacle Detected," providing real-time feedback without requiring direct interaction. The Arduino uses a Motor Driver Module as an intermediary to supply the necessary power to the motors, as the microcontroller itself cannot handle the high current demands for movement.
